(Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the mess of stuff I was packing up, but it's all still in my car so I'll be sure to take pictures and post later!)
I got some sleep around 12:30. I honestly thought I was going to be too excited to sleep, but I think where my nerves were shot, I couldn't stay awake any longer!
August 1, 2014 - Day One of Road Trip:
The next day I loaded up the car with help from my mom (again!) and said my good-bye's to my step-dad (before he left for work), my momma (yes, we both cried), my brother (I had to wake him up haha), and my three puppies! I left around 8:45 to go pick up Chris. His grandparents were sweet enough to drive him to Marmet to meet me so that I wouldn't have to drive 30-40 minutes out of my way to his house.
So now Chris and I are on our way...First Stop: SAVANNAH, GEORGIA!
Strike that, first stop: Traffic in Virginia. It took us TWO HOURS just to drive 17 MILES!!!! Insane, right? That's not even the worst part. Whenever I drive for a long time, I usually get really bad headaches from concentrating on the road and trying to watch other drivers so I don't get into any accidents. We barely made it to North Carolina and I had already been driving for about 6-7 hours! I asked Chris if we could trade spots so he could drive the rest of the way. Thankfully he agreed! This is the picture I sent my mom (you'll see how miserable I was):
We had stopped at a Sheetz to switch places in the car. I got some Frozen Hot Chocolate, thinking it would help my head (it didn't).
My headache became so intense that I started crying my eyes out! I hate when they get that bad! I took some Advil, and we stopped for dinner at KFC because I was craving some chicken legs. But OF COURSE they were out of all dark meats, so I had to settle for chicken tenders (which turned out to not be such a bad thing). After the medicine kicked in and I got some food in my system, I was finally feeling better. Five hours with that headache was more than enough for me.
We made it to our hotel nearly 4 hours later than what the GPS had originally estimated (ya know, before all that traffic and whatnot). We were staying at a Microtel by Wyndham, and if you've never stayed in one, I suggest you at least try one out! Here was our room:
All of that for only $74/night (after taxes and fees)!
August 2, 2014 - Day Two of Road Trip:
We woke up around 8am and went to breakfast. Our hotel offered breakfast for free, so why not??? It was actually pretty yummy (no Mickey Mouse waffles, but I'll let it slide...).
We got on the road and headed for Orlando. While still in Georgia, we passed a sign that mentioned something about "Peach World." We had a little time to kill (according to the GPS) before we were able to check-in in Orlando, so we decided to stop.
We bought a bushel of peaches for $10 (we got about 15-20 peaches!) and headed back onto the road.
We crossed into Florida and unfortunately, Chris wasn't quick enough to capture a picture of the "Welcome to Florida!" sign, but it was OK! We had finally made it to the Sunshine State! We stopped and had lunch at Ruby Tuesdays, and then it was Chris's turn to drive. I told him I wanted to be able to take pictures of anything Disney I saw from here on out.
The sun is so intense that I think I was working on my tan while INSIDE the car!
New meaning to the term "RedLegs!" (Only true Cincinnati fans will understand that!)
Ahhhh, finally! A sign I've been waiting to see since February!
You know you're getting close when you start seeing Disney World and Universal Orlando billboards everywhere!
Thankfully, the second half of our road trip didn't cause me any headaches (woot, woot!)
Chris and I will be staying in a Comfort Inn until it's time for him to fly back home (extremely sad face). Here are a couple pictures of our hotel!
Our room
We have a BALCONY!
Our room key!!!
The outside!
Can you believe that I found this hotel room for only $57/night?!? Everything else around here was going to cost at LEAST $90-$100/night!!!! Talk about a good deal! Not to mention that this place has free continental breakfast (I heard they have MICKEY WAFFLES!!!) AND there's free shuttles to all the Disney Parks!!!!
Chris and I are currently just relaxing in the room until it cools down outside (it was about 90 degrees at 10 this morning), and then we are venturing over to Downtown Disney for possibly some yummy dinner and a visit to The World of Disney aka THE MOST GINORMOUS DISNEY STORE EVER!!!!!
I check in for the program on Monday, so I will probably post again later this coming week!!!
Thanks for reading!
getting of to an exciting start!!! super happy for you!
